WAXHAW -- Mrs. McCorkle , 89, died Saturday, November 8, 2003 in Union Regional Medical Center, Monroe, NC, after a 7 year illness with Alzheimer's.
Mrs. McCorkle was born November 25, 1913 in the Providence area of Mecklenburg County, NC and a life-long resident of the Weddington-Waxhaw area of Union Co., NC. She was the daughter of the late Hugh L. Miller Sr. and Jennie Gordon Miller. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Frank Houston McCorkle, July 16, 1991.
Mrs. McCorkle was a member of Bonds Grove United Methodist Church and served many years as Church Secretary and also past president of the WSCS. She was also a charter member of the Home Demonstration Club and enjoyed cooking, gardening, sports and music. She was a homemaker and her greatest pleasure was in spending time with her family. A Christian wife and mother, her love for her family & friends, her sense of humor and her old-time sayings will be remembered by all who knew her and she will live in our hearts forever.
She is survived by a son, Larry McCorkle & wife, Judy; 3 daughters, Ann M. Wilkinson, Betty M. Tysinger & husband, Roy; Sandra McCorkle , all of Waxhaw, 6 grandchildren, Jim Wilkinson & wife, Evelyn of Mint Hill, NC; Larry 'Buzz' McCorkle & wife, Vivian of Appleton, WS; Barry Wilkinson & wife, Windy of Nashville, TN; Jenny Wilkinson of Mineral Springs, NC; Todd McCorkle of Athens, GA; Christi T. Tarlton & husband John of Waxhaw, NC; 7 great-grandchildren: Chris Wilkinson of Nashville, TN; Beth Wilkinson of Monroe, NC; Adrian Wilkinson of Greenville, NC; Tiffany W. Austin & husband Bart of Wesley Chapel, NC; Allison & Todd McCorkle of Appleton, WS; Tori Tarlton of Waxhaw, NC; 1 g-g-grandchild, Landon Wilkinson of Nashville, TN; sister, Rubye Haywood of Durham, NC; sister-in-law Lucille Julian of Charlotte; siblings, Thomas H. (Buss)Miller, Hugh L. Miller Jr., & Georgie M. Baker predeceased her.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Bonds Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Debra Short. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday night at McEwen Funeral Home, Monroe, NC. Memorials may be made to Bonds Grove United Methodist Church, 8215 Bonds Grove Church Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173 or Adult Care & Share Center, 6709 Idlewild Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212.
Pallbearers will be nephews: David McCorkle , Ronnie Miller, Hazel Baker, Lawson Baker, Eddie Haywood and Edward Cook, relative and long-time friend.
The family would like to thank her extended family at Adult Care & Share Center (Day Care) who was so wonderful to her and also to Jeremy Barrows w/Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of Monroe, NC. She loved all of you very much.
