Mrs. Kennon was the only child of the Rev. Ernest A. Anderson and Fayrine Anderson. Her grandmother, Ada Rhodes reared her, after the death of her mother. She was an honor graduate of the historical Central Colored High School in Shreveport, Spaulding Business College and Jackson Music Conservatory.
She was married to the late James Kennon Sr. and moved to Minden. To this union, one daughter, Fayrine, was born. Their partnership in marriage lent itself to ownership of several businesses, including a cab service, ambulance service and rental property. She was a licensed funeral director, insurance agent, co-owner of Kennon & Sons Mortuary and Monument Sales and Minden Service Insurance Co.
Mrs. Kennon accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Galilee Baptist Church in Shreveport. She began her Christian service as musician for Shreveport-Bossier City area churches and the 13th District Baptist Association, where she was youth leader and musician. She united with St. Rest Baptist Church after moving to Minden. For over 30 years, she nurtured the gift of music in hundreds of piano students who now serve as musicians and ministers of music throughout the U.S.
Serving the Christian community with dedication and distinction, Mrs. Kennon was acclaimed as a leader and her Christian influence was felt on the local, state and national levels of Christian endeavors. At the time of her death, she was serving as first vice president of the Louisiana State Baptist Convention Women's Auxiliary; president of the N.W. 14th District Association Womenís Auxiliary and Christian Education instructor. Blessed by God with oratorical ability, she was often the guest speaker for churches throughout Louisiana for various religious occasions.
Mrs. Kennon was a member of the Baptist World Alliance. Through her religious affiliations, she traveled to Canada, China, Korea, Japan, the Bahamas, and nearly all 50 states.
She was the religious and surrogate mother of many, touching the lives of others in many capacities: mentor, counselor, advisor, educator and business owner. For Mrs. Kennon, the hour was never too early nor too late to help someone in need.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Fayrine; step-son, John and wife Johnnye; cousin Aplis Patterson and husband James of Los Angeles; four step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Sharon, Jon and Yan; an aunt, Berniece Reese of Los Angeles; a cousin, Aubrey Ethel Dubose and husband John of Dallas; one sister-in-law, Florsene Kennon; three nieces, Joyce Kennon Scott, Patricia Kennon Mouton and Martha Whitehurst; her adopted godchildren, Yolanda, Zandra, Lillian and Melvin; her extended family and other relatives and friends.
