Daughter of Richard (Dick) Hezekiah Jeanette and Elizabeth Ophelia Hargrove Jeanette, Emma was born on December 19, 1883. She married James M. Hicks on December 6, 1898 in Williamson County, TN. They had four children: Esther Mai, Richard Lawrence, Chester Leon and one child who died in his first year of life in 1911, Leonard, ten months before his Father died.
Emma's life changed when her husband, James died in 1911. Left with three children to care for, Emma moved to Nashville. With the help of her brothers-in-law, she was able to find a home and a job at May's Hoseiry Mill.
Unfortunately Emma's life was cut short when she died at age 40.
Her oldest two children were grown but the youngest, Chester was a teenager. Thankfully her sister, Clara took Chester into her home till he was old enough to take care of himself.
Emma was a strong woman who faced many difficulties with much dignity. She is my Grandmother.
Note: Cemetery Monument was bought some years after her death and the dates are off by one year.
