A memorial gathering will be held for Oliver Frank Caldera, 81, of Coos Bay at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 19, at Life Care Center, 2890 Ocean Boulevard, Coos Bay with Major Cliff Jones of the Salvation Army officiating.

Cremation rites and inurnment will be held at Ocean View Memory Gardens in Coos Bay.

Frank was born September12, 1929, in Hepner, the son of Alfred John and Elsie Lovena (Harrison) Caldera. He died September 12, 2010, in Coos Bay.

He was raised in Spray and graduated from Spray High School in 1946. After graduation, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army and was scheduled to go overseas when he fell and injured his elbow and arm. He was given an honorable, medical discharge to his disappointment.

Frank married Benna Wigle September 29, 1958, in Washington.

He worked for Weyerhaeuser for 36 years and volunteered helping build homes with the local Habitat for Humanity and also the Salvation Army service activities. Frank loved his family, Western music and guitar, was quite a baseball player, was his own auto mechanic, liked boxing for competition in younger years, loved his animals, especially his nieces horse, Buck and his dog, Fido. Frank and wife, Benna and sometimes daughter, Cathy attended the Salvation Army Church for several years.

Frank is survived by his wife, Benna Wigle Caldera, son, Carl Frank Caldera and daughter, Cathy Ruth Caldera of all Coos Bay; sisters, Melba Cecil and husband, Frank of Spray, Pat Morin and husband, Ted of Baker City, June McClellan and husband, Mac of Sutherlin and Fairy Mae Robinson and husband, Thomas of Coquille; brothers, Dean Caldera, Marvin Caldera and Dwayne Caldera and wife, Melody all of Coos Bay; sister-in-law, Carol Caldera of Fossil; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Elsie Caldera formerly of Coos Bay; brother, Otho Caldera formerly of Fossil; and sister, Juanita Medlock formerly of Bend.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, 1155 Flanagan, Coos Bay, OR 97420.

Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 541-267-3131.
