Cynthia Alexis (Allen) Newnam died on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, in hospice care at Beacon Place in Greensboro.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Asbury United Methodist Church on Pinecroft Road with the Rev. Patrick Hamrick and the Rev. Chris Barrow officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private interment will take place at Westminster Gardens.

Born on Sept. 17, 1943, she was the daughter of Alexander Baxter Allen, who predeceased her and Violet Watts Allen, who survives.

Formerly a Stephen Minister at Peace United Church of Christ, Cynthia was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Ollie Easter Circle.

In addition to her mother, Cynthia is survived by one son, Michael Andrew Newnam and his wife, Sherry of Thomasville; one daughter, Jeanne Newnam Griffin and her husband, Carl of Walterboro, S.C.; three grandchildren, Brice Griffin, Cinda Newnam and Matthew Newnam; and one sister, Gail Allen of Danville, Va.
