Jim served in the United States Navy during World War II. On May 29, 1950, he joined the Illinois State Police as a trooper, serving in District 3 (Chicago now DesPlaines). During his law enforcement career with the state police, he was known as Officer 10-13, the 1st traffic announcer for WCFL Radio, Chicago. He retired at the rank of Corporal on December 31, 1976 with over 26 years of service.
Jim is a retired Illinois State Police Officer. He was the retired Director of Security for the Palmer House and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
He is survived by his wife, Rosetta (nee Behrens); his children, Diane (Richard) Walling, Susan (William) Augustine, Kerry (Guy) Henning, Joan (Leo) Potetti ; his grandchildren, Kathryn, Christopher, Grant, Elaina, Julia, Anna and Faith. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Gloria Martinelli and Diane Behrens.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines.
Service: St. Raymond de Penafort Church, 300 S. Elmhurst Rd. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 9:00 am until time of mass at 10:00 a.m.
