Moses C. Hornbeck was the son William Hornbeck and his wife, Frances (Woods) Hornbeck. He married Phoebe Elizabeth "Betty" (Boyce) Hornbeck. Betty was the daughter of Michael and Phoebe (Murphy) Boyce. The fathers of Moses and Betty served on opposite sides in the American Civil War but were, and remained, good friends. Moses relocated from the Gilmer County area to a farm in the Hinkleville, Upshur County, (WV), where he remained to raise his family of four sons and four daughters.
