Relieves South Pacific Vel Visits Home , David Pena, SM/3c, was home on a short leave this'week after 24 months overseas duty in the south Pacific. Arriving at hfs home in Me- sllla Park, he visited with his mother, Mrs. Sarah Pena, and other members of the famly during the morning, spending'the first afternoon looking up his former teachers at the Park school. . A gunner on a destroyer, Seaman Pena participated in 14 major engagements in the Pacific, including^ the battles of Tarawa, Guadalcanal, and the Marshall islands, being wounded In the latter. The last battle in which he took part was that of Saipan. Pena, who holds the purple heart medal for wounds received in action, enlisted in the navy In March, 1941, while a student at Las Cruces Union high school. He leaves today to return to the San Diego naval base.
