Funeral services for Jerry Dale Abston, 49, of Cookeville will be held Friday, July 4 at 1pm at Poplar Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Sebastian and Pastor Jason Groe officiating. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday 4pm to 8pm with a masonic service at 8pm and Friday 7am until service time at the church.
Jerry Dale passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 11, 1965 in Montgomery County, OH to Jerry Abston and Lois Holloway Bertram of Cookeville.
Jerry Dale worked for 26 years in law enforcement, serving with distinction starting in dispatch and rising to Detective. During his service he solved several high profile crimes and made Putnam County a safer place.
He loved God and his family. He also loved fishing, golfing and taught hundreds of people firearms safety through carry permit courses.
For years Jerry Dale served as director of the Fraternal Order of Police's "Shop with a Cop" children's Christmas charity program.
Jerry Dale is survived by his wife, Kim Thompson Abston; daughter, Morgan L. Abston; his mother and stepfather, Lois and Sam Bertram; father and stepmother, Jerry and Sarah Abston, father and mother-in-law, Eddie and Linda Thompson all of Cookeville.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Putnam County Sheriff's Department and Emergency Medical Service employees will serve as honorary pallbearers.
