Fred Totten was the son of William and Catherine (Morley) Totten. He was born in Lima where his parents originally lived, but before leaving to fight as a Union soldier in the Civil War, William moved his family to Wayland where his wife had relatives. When he returned from the war, William made Wayland his family’s permanent home. Fred initially engaged in farming but later was employed at the Gunlocke Chair Company. He died at his home on Lincoln St. in Wayland. Survivors were his widow, Mrs. Melvina Totten; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Glover and Mrs. Ernest Drum; one brother Murray Totten; a grandson, Robert Glover, all of Wayland.
