Karl Roland Saertschy was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the United States Navy, assigned as Pilot flying a Curtiss SB2C Helldiver in the Bombing Squadron 3 (VB-3).

Karl was KIA when over the bombing mission in Luzon, they were hit by Anti-Aircraft and crashed on 7 Jan. 1945, he is honored with an Air Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Expeditionary Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WW II Victory Medal.
