Born December 21, 1965, in Jackson, TN, the 48-year old Mississippi native is survived by several related and extended family members: fiancée Susan Cheek of Thompson Station; daughter 28-year-old Chelsea Murphy of Pearl, MS, and her daughter 4-month-old Whitten Maclaine Murphy; son 7-year-old Dakota Cooper Powell of Nashville, TN; father and stepmother respectively, Wayne and Jean Powell of Brandon, MS; mother and stepfather respectively, Anne and Paul Dearing of Gatlinburg, TN; sister Ellen Powell Hawkins of Raymond, MS; sister Robyn Powell Patterson of Byram, MS
Jeffery Powell's passing is grieved as the loss of a loving family member, distinguished serviceman, honored employee and fun-loving companion. During a Yellow Freight career that spanned three decades, he received numerous sales awards and promotions, and recruited and trained over 100 employees at multiple sites. Retiring as an Air Force Master Sargent after over 20 years of service, he served in both Operations Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom, receiving the USAF Meritorious Service Medal, Air Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, USAF Longevity Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, USAF BMT Honor Graduate Service Ribbon, Mississippi Medal of Efficiency and Mississippi War Medal with Bronze Service Star.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home, 3780 Highway 80, East Pearl, MS. Funeral services will follow 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 4111 Highway 80 East, Jackson, MS.
Pallbearers will be Chris Powell, Sean Powell, Ryan Powell, Richard Peabody, Henry Moss, Troy Elliot, Truett Hawkins and Narin Viravong.
