Tim Abington went to be with the Lord at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003. Tim was 42, born Aug. 23, 1961, in Baton Rouge. He was the son of Thomas R. Abington Sr. and Marilu Abington Johnson, both of Baton Rouge. Tim will be remembered for his love of family, generosity for all and his honoring the Lord with his voice. The family received friends from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd. Visitation at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Jerry White, the Rev. Jerry Wallace and Dr. Kevin Hand. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Tim was a graduate of Central High School and Southeastern Louisiana University, attended Florida State University and received a master's degree in vocal performance from Southeastern. He was a longtime cantor at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and a past choir director at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond, before moving to Nashville, Tenn., while employed by Michael P. Mangin & Associates. He is loved and will be sorely missed by his parents, Marilu Abington Johnson and Thomas R. Abington Sr.; stepparents, Dr. Doyle C. Johnson and Jackie Abington; two brothers, Thomas R. Abington Jr. and wife Ashley, and Todd D. Abington and wife Vicki; a sister, Jayne Campanile and husband Todd Sr.; nephews, Thomas R. Abington III, David Todd Campanile Jr., Phillip Todd Abington and Cameron Campanile; and nieces, Angele Abington, Crystal Campanile and Lauren Abington, all of Baton Rouge; maternal grandmother, Charlotte Long of Baton Rouge; five uncles, Vernon Long Jr. and wife Nancy, Alvin D. Long and wife Diane, Robert Long, and Richard Long and wife Martha, all of Baton Rouge, and Larry L. Long and wife Janice of Sanford, N.C.; aunts, Charlotte Merchant of Littleton, Colo., Jane Wi
lkins of Baton Rouge, Ann Wallace and husband Jerry of Monroe, and Elwyna Long of Waynesville, N.C.; and many cousins. He is rejoicing in heaven with his paternal grandparents, Martin and Jimmie Abington; maternal grandfather, Vernon Long Sr.; uncles, Charles Long, Edwin Wilkins and Burt Merchant; and an aunt, Sharon Long. Pallbearers will be Todd Abington, Thomas Abington Jr., Thomas Abington III, Todd Campanile Sr., Todd Campanile Jr., Mike Mangin, Danny Davis and Brad Wilkins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Action International or Gideons International, through New Covenant Baptist Church, Denham Springs. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Earl K. Long Medical Center, EMS Baton Rouge, Dr. Linford and emergency room staff, Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet.
