Bruno Salem Almquist was born on 29 August, 1892 in New York Mills, Otter County, Minnesota to Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Almquist. He worked with his father as a merchant in Crosby, Minnesota and moved west to Santa Ana, Orange County in 1929 as his dad neared retirement. His dad owned a store briefly in Santa Ana before retiring and Bruno started his women's store in the early 1930s and moved that store to different locations on 4th Street. He looks to have given up the store and moved to manage a ranch he owned near Williams, Arizona by 1939. He returned to Orange County in June 1941 to work for Abe Granas of the Coast Beverage Company in Santa Ana. It was following the death of Jack Dalton, proprietor of the Villa Park Market in 1952-53 that Bruno operated the small grocery store at Wanda and Villa Park Road near Villa Park. It was known as Bruno's Villa Park Market, which he operated until his death on 12 June, 1966. The little store was torn down prior to Katella being widened in 1968.
