John T. Hamilton Jr. was the son of John T. Hamilton and Sarah M. Cartmill. He was the seventh of eight children. After the death of his parents in 1876 he was sent to live with his Aunt and Uncle, James Anderson Cartmill and Lucy Ann Chapman Cartmill in Hartford City, Mason Co., West Virginia. It is said that John had a daughter, but I have not been able to locate the facts of that statement.
