Born April 19, 1920, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Anna S. (Strausbaugh) Swartz.
Kathleen worked for many years at the Emory H. Markle Middle School of the South Western Public School District in the cafeteria until her retirement. Kathleen was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Hanover.
She with her late husband were charter members of the Hanover Pacers Square Dancing Club. She was a member of the former Parkville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and the local and national A.A.R.P.
Kathleen is survived by three children, Miriam R. Rang of Littlestown, G. Mark Shearer and wife, Mary Ellen of Hanover, and Karen D. Parenteau and husband, Mark of Frederick, Md.; one son-in-law, Gary Collingsworth of Hanover; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruthanna Starner of New Oxford, and Marian J. Louey of Hanover. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda M. Collingsworth; one son-in-law, Skip Rang; one sister, Emma C. Runk; and two brothers, Clyde Swartz and Raymond J. Swartz. A service to celebrate and remember Kathleen's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, 1398 Moulstown Road, Hanover, with the Rev. DeLong officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery. Viewings and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Serving as casketbearers will be Skip Rang, Jr., Troy Rang, Connor Rang, Scott Rang, Bryan Shearer, Matthew Klunk, and Wade Collingsworth. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Kathleen's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603; or to Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, 1398 Moulstown Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
