Jack Ramshaw attended Spencer Council School Beverley and then Beverley Grammar School.
He started employment as a Clerk in Hull with the Halifax Building Society.
he took private flying lessons and Joined the RAFVR as a member of the Hull Mess and trained at Brough [ Blackburn Aircraft Co ]

222 Squadron was formed in 1918 and in March 1940 were at RAF Digby flying Spitfires.
After a period at RAF Kirton in Lindsay they moved to Hornchurch for The Battle of Britain on Aug 29th and were in action the following day.

Sgt Ramshaw was shot down on Sept 4th near Yalding in Kent and although he was 'plucked' out of the wreckage he died before reaching hospital

He was buried on Thursday Sept 12th in the Cemetery next to his old school. The coffin was carried by 6 RAF Sergeants and sadly one of those present was his finacee Irene Williams.

The Battle of Britain Historical Society presented a Memorial Plaque in his name and that of Sgt Pidd, another Battle of Britain Pilot who attended the Grammar School.
