John H. Matteson, age 62, of 904 S. 15th St., Clear Lake, IA, died Monday, 26 Feb 2007, at home.

Funeral service will be held Friday, 2 Mar 2007, 10:00 AM at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave N., with Reverend Diana Hoover officiating. Interment will be held at Clear Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be Thursday, 5:00 - 7:30 PM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

John Hendley Matteson was born on 16 Sep 1944, in Morris, IL, son of Hendley and Elsie (Johnson) Matteson. He graduated from Morris High School in 1962 and The University of Illinois in 1966. After college he was drafted and served in the Army from 1966-1968, spending a year in Vietnam in the Veterinary Corp. John was employed by Hormel Foods as a consultant in the Feed Division. Prior to that he owned and operated Northwood Feed and Farm Supply in Northwood, IA. In his free time, John enjoyed golfing, building and flying model airplanes and vegetable gardening. He also spent countless hours watching sports and placed many a friendly wager on the Cubs, Bears and Fighting Illini. John enjoyed cooking, grilling, and was well known for his rhubarb pie. John was an active member of the River City Radio Control for over 20 years. He was a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W. and the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. John is survived by his wife, Merri (Edgar) Matteson, of 23 years; daughter, Julia Hill, and her husband, Jon, of Fort Worth, TX; his son, Joel Matteson, and Erin Thompson of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Jim Matteson and his wife Ginny of Mazon, IL, and Dave Matteson and his wife Candy also of Mazon, IL. John was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
