Roger E. Crocker

Roger E. Crocker, a Director in the Crocker Chair Company, and superintendent of factory "B," is one of the well-known men of the Chair City. A native of Willsborough, Essex County, N. Y., he was born October 18, 1846. When seven years of age he came with his father, Silas R. Crocker, to Sheboygan County. Upon the death of his mother, four years later, he returned to New York, and worked four years at farm labor, attending the district school during the winter season. Returning to Sheboygan, he engaged in whatever he could find to do that would earn him a livelihood. Until the old Crocker & Bliss Chair Factory burned, he worked in that, and then went to work with the Phoenix Chair Company, having charge of the chair-making department for four years. He helped to organize the Crocker Chair Company, with which he has since been identified.
Mr. Crocker was married in Sheboygan, by Rev. O. C. McCullough, to Miss Ruth H. Edwards, a native of Sheboygan, and a daughter of A. H. Edwards, deceased. The date of this event was October 17, 1871. Mr. and Mrs. Crocker have one son, William E., who is a graduate of the Manual Training School of Chicago.
Mr. Crocker is a stanch Republican in politics, but has never sought or desired an official position. Both he and his wife are active workers in the Congregational Church, in which he is a Deacon and a Trustee.
