JC was captain of the Lacrosse team at Columbia University 1905-1909. He lettered in Lacrosse, as well as cross country. He was the art director of the Jester, the student paper, a member of Beta Theta Pi, vice present of the Architectural Society. His degree was in architecture. He then moved to Minneapolis to teach architecture in the engineering department at the University of Minnesota. He was the first coach of the first lacrosse team assembled at the U of M. On June 12 he went canoeing with a young student from the university. A storm came up and the canoe began taking on water. JC tried to swim to shore for help but was overtaken by the waves and distance and drowned. His body was not found for two weeks. The young lady survived. His body was brought back to Brooklyn by two of his brothers. He was the best and the brightest of all his siblings
