Married Grace Helen Woodsum, August 29, 1923, North Conway, New Hampshire.

Date: Monday, November 5, 1934 Location: Boston, Massachusetts Paper: Boston Herald Article type: Newspaper Article
STORM PERIL:
At Portland, Me., three Chebeague Island men were rescued at Chandler's Cove after a punt had sunk with their weight. They were Winthrop S. Powers, 63, Ashley C. Johnson, 30, and Harold C. Dow, 49.
They were bringing ashore a load of lumber and pipe from Johnson's motor boat, which was anchored off-shore, Saturday night, when the punt filled and sank. They drifted nearly 1000 yards before Capt. Edmund Doughty rowed alongside and pulled them into his dory. Dow's brother had heard the cries for help.

When Uncle Ashley was a lobsterman, he had the cleanest, most well painted, and prettiest boat in Chandler's Cove. He was up early every morning to haul his traps and bring home the lobsters and crabs. Lobsters went to Portland; crabs were cooked and picked in the crab shed [HARD WORK]. He was also the sheriff on Chebeague Island.
