Mrs. Virginia Lee Shaver, 88 years, of Tiff City, Mo., .
departed this life at 12:50 a.m. Thursday morning, Sept. .
17, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. .
Virginia was born April 2, 1921, in Ramona, Okla., daughter .
of the late Henry Stuart and Lena (Harbison) Lewis. Her .
early childhood was spent in the Oklahoma oil fields where .
her father was employed. In 1929, the Lewis' moved to a .
farm near Southwest City, Mo., where Virginia attended .
elementary and high school. .
In 1937, Virginia was united in marriage to Dean Shaver and .
to this union two daughters and one son were born. .
The Shaver family moved to Tiff City, where Dean and his .
brother owned and operated a general store until 1962. .
Virginia was employed for 15 years by the Missouri Family .
Services where she served as an eligibility worker, child .
welfare worker and supervisor. She was a faithful member of .
the Buffalo Creek Baptist Church which she loved; she was .
also a member of the FCE Club, of Tiff City. Her husband, .
Dean was elected in 1964, as state representative from .
McDonald County. While they were living in Jefferson City, .
Mo., Virginia served on the state Human Development .
Committee. Following the death of her husband, she returned .
to college to pursue her childhood dream of graduating. .
Virginia attended Crowder College where she graduated in .
three semesters. Virginia enjoyed the students and the .
atmosphere of the college so much that she stayed at .
Crowder for the next eight years working in a federal .
program called VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America). .
She aided in the literacy program, tutoring, training .
tutors in area locations and teaching adults to read. .
Virginia also taught a college class of ESL (English as a .
Second Language) and served five years on the Crowder .
Foundation Board. She later attended Missouri Southern .
College in Joplin, Mo., where she lived in the dorms, .
continued her tutoring and at age 75, received a BA degree .
in communications. Virginia was a shining light to everyone .
who knew her. She will be greatly missed but her influence .
and unending service will live on through the many people .
she touched. .
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean .
Shaver; and a beloved grandson, J.D. Shaver. .
Virginia is survived by her three children; two daughters, .
Carolyn Fields and husband, Gary, of Wagoner, Okla., and .
Marolyn Pryor and husband, Roger, of Norman, Okla.; a son, .
Jack Shaver and wife, Dana, of Tiff City, Mo.; seven .
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-.
granddaughter; and many beloved family members and friends. .
Funeral services for Mrs. Shaver are 10 a.m. Saturday, .
Sept. 19, at the Buffalo Creek Baptist Church, near Tiff .
City, with Brother Jared Proctor officiating. Burial will .
follow in the New Bethel Cemetery in Anderson, Mo. Those .
honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Keith .
Taggart, Troy Taggart, Rod Fields, Kerry Fields, Jason .
Dill, Todd Frencken and Dave Buck. The family will receive .
friends on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Anderson .
chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes. .
