3-MONTH ILLNESS FATAL TO WIDELY KNOWN MUSICIAN
Ernestine Mary Drowatzky Is Claimed by Death in Hospital Here Sunday
STRICKEN ON NOV. 15
Ernestine Mary Drowatzky, 29, 2321 Arkansas, known as "the girl of smiles" and an accomplished organist and pianist, died Sunday afternoon in a local hospital after an illness of more than three months.
A native Wichitan, Miss Drowatzky was widely known throughout the Southwest for her musical ability and was much in demand as an accompanist and piano and organ soloist.
She has played at one time or another in nearly every church in the city, and prior to her last illness, she was organist at Trinity Methodist Episcopal church. Before that she served as assistant organist at the First Presbyterian church. She was a student of Dean Alan Irwin of Friends university.
When a small girl she played the piano at St. Paul's Lutheran church, of which she was a member.
Stricken November 15
She became ill November 15, while accompanying her sister, Bernadine, a singer, at a social function. Blessed with a friendly and kindly disposition, she did not let anyone know that she had been stricken and continued playing until her sister had finished the song she was singing.
All during her illness she maintained a cheerful attitude and always had a smile for those who came to see her.
She graduated from Wichita high school in the class of 1923.
Ever since she was 15, she has assisted her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Drowatzky, in operating a florist establishment.
Musical Club Member
She was a member of the Wichita Junior Musical club, Wichita Civic Music association, and Wichita Rebekah lodge No. 484.
Besides her parents and her sister, Bernadine, she is survived by three brothers, Mark, 2305 Arkansas; Karl B., 425 Laura, and Frank at home, and two sisters, Josephine C. and Charlotte A., both at home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m., at the Lahey and Martin chapel, with Dr. E. E. Stauffer officiating. Burial will be in College Hill Memorial lawns.
Pallbearers will be H. R. Robinson, W. J. Allen, Joe Hume, I. A. Lange, J. Elder, and L. F. Jones.
