Pastor & founder-God's Temple, Hamilton, Ohio.

Reverend Carter was an extremely talented and charismatic leader who was born ahead of his time. I have no doubt that had he been born a few decades later he would have founded a mega church with a myriad of followers. He was very musically talented and, IMHO, his singing style and appearance was similar albeit superior to that of Johnny Cash.

Here is an excerpt from It All Happened in Renfro Valley by Pete Stamper, Copyright © 1999 by The University Press of Kentucky:

“Almost from its first opening the Old Barn was the site of at least one and sometimes two or more summer and fall revival services. These were two- and three-week services held nightly to break for the Renfro Valley Barn Dance on Saturday nights. The most successful and longest running of these revivals was held by Brother Johnny Carter, a young Holiness preacher from Hamilton, Ohio. Brother Carter was known for counties around. His group of musicians and singers numbering a dozen or more sometimes would take over our little radio station. This ensured a standing-room-only crowd throughout the revival, year after year. The preaching was hard, the singing was loud, and the Hallelujahs were many.”

Reverend Carter loved and tended to his flock and was always available to them, sharing in their trials, tribulations and joy. He was a faithful servant to his Lord and never failed to minister to the sick and broken-hearted. Thank you Reverend Carter for a job well done.
