Ronald "Ron" Fredrick Holbein Sr. 77, born September 17, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Frederick S and Beatrice L (Kuhn) Holbein. Ron passed away peacefully July 3, 2014 at St. Anne's hospital in Westerville, Ohio. His wife, family and friends were around him and by his side as he departed on the celestial journey into the heavens. Retired from The Ohio State University as Maintenance Superintendent, Ron was an avid hunter, fisherman, boater, camper and prankster. His true love was auto racing. As a Gear Head, he built and raced his first car when he was just 15 years old and raced at Powell Motor Speedway. He raced go karts in his mid-life and in his later years passed on this love of racing to his sons and grandson Adam. As an electrician and mechanic, there is nothing he could not fix or rework to be better. One of several founding members of High Street Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio the church was a constant source of strength in the past few years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Woodrow Holbein, his sister Sadie Bittner-Scott-Younkin, Brother-in-law Arthur (Carol) Gilkerson, and step-son Mark (Sandra) Staten, three Grand-daughters Meghan, Ashley and Courtney. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Joyce E (Scarberry) Holbein. Sons Randy Richter, Frederick S. II (Melissa), Michael (Vicki), Ronald F. Jr. (Melissa), daughters Nancy (Glen) Funk, Ronda (John) Massie, Ronae' (Bryan) Himmel, Gina (Mark) Gill, step-son David (Sheri) Staten, and step-daughter Tammy (Charlie) Griffith. Sisters Rubie Garrison, Sallie "Crystal" Holbein, Carol (Arthur) Gilkerson, Judy Shepherd, Barbara (Bob) Price, 22 Grand-children, and many many great-grand-children, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge Ron's best friend; Steve Dunbar and close friend Scott Goffin Sr. for all of their support and friendship to the family. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Newcomer Northeast Chapel, 3047 Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, Ohio, with worship services 11:00 am Wednesday July 9, 2014 at High Street Baptist Church 7399 N High St. Columbus, Ohio, with interment following at Blendon Central Cemetery 6350 S. Hempstead Rd. Westerville, Ohio
