Frederick Austen, M.D. for half a century a practicing physician in Lacona, died at his home on Railroad St at 6 o'clock Thursday morning, Aug 2, 1928. In 1878 he located in Lacona and soon after erected the home where he resided, much of the construction being done with his own hands. In 1884 he entered the drug business which he conducted for some 27 years. He continued the practice of his profession, maintaining an office adjacent to his home till quite recently. He was married to Julia A., daughter of Robert and Julia Green Of Oswego on March 31, 1876 and to them were born Frederick Austen of Lacona, also a daughter Josephine, since deceased. In 1912 he married Miss Alice Bass who survives with one son Frederick. Interment will be in Eiverside cemetery in Oswego. Dr. Austen was born in Oswego, Nov. 23, 1849, son of Benjamin Austen, who was born in France. His grandmother, Mrs. Hugunin was the first white child born. in the City of Oswego and his grandfather Hugunin erected the first frame house in that city.
