Lieut. Francis Marion Frank was born in Champaign county, Ohio on the 13th day of March 1836 and died at his home in Cherokee, Kansas on the 1st day of April 1919, aged 83 years and nineteen days.

He enlisted in the United States army on January 1, 1862, in Co. F., 64 Regiment of Illinois Vol. He served in the army of the Union 3 years 6 months and ten days. He was with Gen. Sherman in his famous March to the Sea and was the first soldier to reach the top of Kenesaw mountain, on May the 8th, 1865. He was appointed by the governor of Illinois as 2nd lieutenant and was discharged as corporal on 20th of May, 1865, by reason of his promotion. He served as lieutenant until the 11th day of July, 1865, when he was honorably discharged from the service at Washington, D.C.

He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Anna Savidge on the 26th day of October, 1865. To this union 7 children were born, 5 daughters and two sons, to-wit: Hattie Lucinda, who died in infancy. Those who survive their father's going are Mrs. N.J. Randall of Cherokee, Mrs. W.E. Anthony of Mineral, Mrs. Geo. E. Renshaw of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. John H. Clausen of Goldendale, Wash., Geo. A. Frank of Dexter, Kas., D.W. Frank of Cherokee; a devoted wife and mother, 11 grandchildren, 1 brother, 1 sister and a host of sympathizing friends and neighbors are left to mourn his departure.

He and his aged companion were converted on the 26th of July, 1874, and united with the Christian church and were devoted members thereof until their emigration to Kansas, settling on a farm far from church privileges. They neglected taking membership since coming to Kansas but continued firm in their faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was very reticent, a peaceful and quiet man in his contact with the public, but was an honest man in all his dealings with the public. A brave and heroic soldier, a good friend and neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew him. He came to Kansas in 1881 and settled on a farm near Sherman City where he lived for several years, then lived in and around McCune until his removal several years ago to Cherokee where he continued to live until death ended his long and eventful life. He became wayworn and weary, laid life's burdens down, and has entered into rest and is now bivouacked with the heroic dead upon fame's eternal camping grounds of eternity. May he rest in peace.

Life's race well run,
Life's work well done,
Life's crown well won, Now comes rest.
