Kenas Akers, 92, of Pocatello, died Friday morning, July 10, 2014 at Pocatello Care and Rehab, from the complications of an extended illness.
Kenas was born on January 27, 1922 in Pocatello to William and Martha Akers. He attended school in the Pocatello area and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1941.
Kenas married Barbara L. Jorgensen on January 19, 1946 in Idaho Falls. They were married for 50 years 3 months before Barbara died due to complications from an extended illness in 1996.
Kenas was in the United States Air Force and retired after 26 years of service. He was a military man from the word GO! He enjoyed traveling worldwide, seeing new places and meeting new people. His family followed him throughout his military career, traveling where they could go. He expressed the hope that they enjoyed seeing places that some only dream of. He was glad they were there, and he was proud of all his children. He also owned Beltone Hearing Center for some 20 years. He enjoyed working with and helping people ones he came in contact with during his time with Beltone.
Kenas is survived by his younger brother Sherman L. Akers of Pocatello. Also his 5 children: Fred Akers of California, Kenneth Akers of Pocatello, Kenas W. Akers of Pocatello, Tolbert L. Akers of California and his beautiful daughter, Patricia A. Kemp of Pocatello and their respective families. He had 13 grandchildren, and several great grand children. Kenas was preceded in death by his parents, his lovely wife, Barbara, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.
The family would like to thank Access Hospice and Home Care for their caring support. Pocatello Care and Rehab for the comfort they gave him during the last few days he was able to enjoy. Also Ridge Wind Assisted Living for their care and support as well. Thank you!
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. Family will receive friends 7-9 pm Thursday evening and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello, with military graveside rites.
