Funeral Services For Pioneer Purdon Citizen Wednesday
The funeral servces for A. J. Davis, 84, a pioneer resident of Navarro county, were held from the Purdon Baptist church, of which he was a member, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with burial in the Dawson cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. E. L. Gray, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Fisher, pastor of the Purdon Methodist church.
Mr. Davis was a native of Missouri, came to Texas at the age of 10 years and had resided in the Purdon community for more than 60 years.
Surviving are his wife; eight children, Elbert, A. C. and Wm. Davis, of Purdon, and P. B. Davis, Corsicana; Mrs. Fred Ford and Mrs. Matt Tickle, of Purdon; Mrs. Sid Derbin, of Houston, and Mrs. Ben Shell, of Blooming Grove; 24 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren and many other relatives.
Grandsons were pallbearers.
