Garvis Nowlin Birdwhistell, 88, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Gilbert Nolan and Mamie Pearl Hawkins Birdwhistell. He was a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church, and served in the Army during WWII. He was retired from Lawrenceburg Police Department, Kentucky Department of Transportation and was an auto mechanic. He was a member of Anderson Lodge #90 and was their oldest member since 1953. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Wash Birdwhistell, Lawrenceburg; son, Garvis Birdwhistell Jr., Frankfort; four grandchildren, Christopher Birdwhistell, Trevor Birdwhistell, Krystal Birdwhistell and Melissa Bush; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ilene Peyton and a granddaughter, Tonja Trost. Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with military rites. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , P.O. Box 50, Memphis, Tenn., 38101. Casketbearers were Glenn Birdwhistell, Jimmy Rogers, Charles Allen Sutherland, Granville Bunch, Tray Gaines, Christopher Birdwhistell, Trevor Birdwhistell and Charles Cammack. Thanks to C.
