Marshall Lyle, 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in La Jolla.
Born Oct. 27, 1919, in Scott County, Miss., he lived in Carlsbad for 50 years. He retired in 1976 from civil service for the U.S. Navy.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in Italy, and received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Lyle was preceded in death by his grandson, Charles Estep.
He is survived by his wife, Cora Lyle of Carlsbad; daughters and sons-in-law Marcia and James Estep of Vista, Charlotte and Mike Fox of Valley Center and Sophie Charon of Vista; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Eternal Hills Memorial Chapel, 1999 El Camino Real in Oceanside with the Rev. officiating. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Eternal Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.
