Presumed actual grave here is unmarked, but a large double-sided family tombstone was installed on 14 May 2021, to honor his presumed interment here, along with the many others in our family who are also buried here in unmarked graves.

His burial here is only presumed, as his death is confirmed to have occurred in Jan 1870 in Haralson Co., Georgia. (Source: 1870 Mortality Schedule) This record states that he was a millwright, and that he was widowed at the time of his death. It also states that his cause of death was hydrothorax.

He has many descendants buried here in unmarked graves.

Abner was the son of Thomas Deering/Dearing and Mary (Ramsay) Deering/Dearing. Thomas was born in about 1760 in Orange Co., Virginia and died in 1809 in Wilkes Co., GA. Mary was born in about 1764, also in Orange Co., Virginia, but it is not known when or where she died. Thomas & Mary were married on 20 Jun 1783 in Orange Co., VA.

Abner served as a Private in the 4th Regiment (Jones) of the Georgia Militia during the War of 1812.

The name of Abner's wife is unknown, but she is present in the 1840 census, where she and Abner are living in Newton Co., GA. She is between the ages of 40 and 49. Since Abner's family cannot be found in the 1850 census, it is assumed that she died between 1840 and 1860, and she is probably not buried here.

Abner bought land in the Brewers District of Newton County, Georgia, during the Land Lottery of 1827. He is seen living there in the 1840 census, living with his unknown wife, as well as 5 children: 2 males under the age of 10 and 3 females between the ages of 5 and 19.

Abner cannot be located, as of yet, in the 1850 census, but according to a land purchase made on 15 Nov 1851, he was residing in what would later become Haralson County, in late 1851 (most likely Carroll County, Georgia, at that time - Haralson County was formed in 1856, from portions of Carroll & Polk Counties).

Abner is seen living alone in Haralson County, GA, two houses down from his son, Francis Marion Dearing, in 1860. His birth year/state are listed as abt 1784 in North Carolina.

As a note, the 1870 mortality schedule, referenced above, states that he was born in abt 1786 in South Carolina.

There is one other known son in this family: Simeon Newton Dearing. (See his memorial's biography for more info.) Simeon is found in the 1860 census, living in the same district (2nd) in Haralson County, Georgia, but several houses away from Abner and Francis.
