VIOLA LaVERNE MAHNENSMITH FITCH, 103, of Fort Wayne, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Heritage Park Nursing Home, Fort Wayne. Born March 31, 1902, in Ossian, she was a School Teacher for Ossian Elementary School for 12 years and had taught for over 40 years total. She was a member of A.A.U.W., Fort Wayne Women's Club, and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority; and was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are her son, Dr. Victor K. Fitch of Fort Wayne; daughter, Rosalie R. DeWitt of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Forrest R. Fitch, in 1975; and son, Linwood R. Fitch. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service. Burial in Huntertown Cemetery. Memorials to Community Harvest Food Bank or Memorial Baptist Church.
