Troy, IL--Samuel Spencer Avis, a well-known resident of Troy, died last Saturday morning. He had reached the age of 85 years, 11 months and 19 days. He was born in Bond County, October 2, 1854. On March 28, 1880, he married Miss Charity E. Simpson. Two children were born to them. One daughter Alice Adeline died at the age of 18. Mrs. Avis died September 8, 1930. Mr. Avis had been a resident of Troy for over 60 years. He was Troy postmaster during the Cleveland administration. Later he became supervisor of Jarvis township. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. P.J. Craney of Troy, one granddaughter, Miss Alice Craney of Troy, two sisters, Mrs. H.E. Wardell of Rosemond, and Mrs. Mary Meyer of Taylorville. Funeral services were held Monday at the Edwards Funeral Home, Rev. Mornhinweg officiating, with interment at the Frieden Evangelical Cemetery.
