Notes for ROBERT BURNS SHORT:.

R. B. Short Died Of Heart Disease --.

Was at Work on Sewer Ditch at the Time on Wednesday .

Robert B. Short 68, one of our well-known long time residents, fell dead Wednesday at 10:30 while at work on a sewer ditch at the home of Mrs. Marie Snyder, in northeast Glidden..

He had been in his usual health and his death was entirely unexpected. With his son Ray, he had made an excavation at the Snyder place and at work in the bottom of the ditch when, as told by his son, he straightened up suddenly and then sank down. Ray quickly lifted him out of the ditch and Dr. V.T. Lindsay was summoned. It was found, however death had come of heart trouble. The body was taken to the Eaton funeral parlors..

Funeral services will be held Friday, at 2 p.m. in the Friends Church in Glidden, with Rev. G.C. Simcox in charge. Music will be furnished by Miss H. Nell Malen. Interment in the Dillavou cemetery, beside his wife who died in 1931..

Robert Burns Short, son of William and Emeline Short, was born May 25, 1874, in Greenwood county, Kansas, where he lived until about 15 years of age, when the family moved to Greene county, Iowa. He has made his home in Greene and Carroll counties since that time where he engaged in general work of farming, cement work, at which he was very good..

He was married when a young man to Mary Dillavou, who died at their home in Glidden, June 12, 1931..

To this union six children were born. One son Irwin died December 23, 1933. Three sons and two daughters surviving are Ray Short, Ralph Short, Dale Short, Mrs. Dave (Vera) McKinley all of Glidden and Mrs. Velma Aden of Rolfe; three granddaughters and one grandson..

Mr. Short was a kindly man and had a host of friends who had known him for the 40 years he had lived in this community..
