Lela Ann Elizabeth Gray was the daughter of Tyle Gray and Talulah Almetie Gann. She was born in Alabama and moved with her mother and stepfather, Jordon Bannister, to Kaufman County, Texas around 1900.
When the Bannisters returned to Alabama around 1903, Lela remained in Texas, as she had married Charles Walter Wooten in Kaufman County, Texas. They were divorced within a few years, and Lela then returned to Alabama and lived there for several years with her mother until the family returned to Texas.
Lela was survived by two sons from her early marriage, James and Frank Wooten.
