"Fess" short for Professor was born Mozelle Sanford Dansby to a former slave Mozelle Sanford "Bud" Dansby and Julia "Mittie" Kirk. Fess grew up in Franklin, Heard County, Georgia. He was the youngest of 12 children. Fess was at one time a school teacher who taught in Cooksville, Heard County, Georgia and later in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia. Around 1935 Fess, built Carser Chapel Church,in Franklin, Heard County, Georgia, which also housed a school room, and he also Pastored there. Fess was well revered for his Mathematical, Carpentry, Construction Building skills.
