Matthew E. Tabb, formerly of Botetourt, 39, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at his home in Grantsville, Maryland.

Matt was born January 7, 1975 in Martinsburg, West Virginia and was the son of Donald and Kathleen Haas Usak. He was a 1993 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

Matt served nearly seven years in the US Navy before receiving a medical retirement. He was an Aviation Electronics Technician serving aboard the USS Enterprise and was deployed in the Persian Gulf during both the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War. Matt was an avid hockey fan, particularly of the Pittsburgh Penguins and enjoyed heavy metal music.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved daughter Krista Nichole Petty of Buchanan; his loving companion Amanda Yoder of Grantsville, Maryland; sisters Suzanne Usak Bowling of Daleville and Meredith Tabb Denton of Martinsburg, West Virginia; his brother Nicholas Tabb of Shepherdstown, West Virginia; his father Phillip Tabb, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Matt's life will be Monday, 11:00 AM at The Church of the Transfiguration, 7624 Roanoke Road, Fincastle with Reverend Fr. Stephen McNally officiating. (PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH) Burial with full military honors will be at Godwin Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, 2-5 PM at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association, TNA Facial Pain Association, 408 W. University Ave., Suite 602, Gainesville, FL 32601.
