GLENN D. NETTO, M.D., 61 ROCKFORD - Glenn D. Netto, M.D., 61, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014. Born September 7, 1952, in Chicago, the son of Serafim and Katherine (Adamo) Netto. Glenn was raised in Rockford, IL, where he attended local schools. Dr. Netto is a 1974 graduate of Rockford College, and he received a B.A. degree there in biology, magna cum laude. His further education included a M.S. degree in zoology from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois in 1976. Dr. Netto is a 1980 graduate from the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine. After medical school, he did his residency in internal medicine at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center and Saint Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1983, Dr. Netto joined a large multispecialty medical organization, Rockford Clinic, where he practiced primary care general internal medicine. In 1994, he was named Assistant Professor of Medicine at UIC-Rockford, teaching second, third and fourth year medical students in history taking, physical diagnosis and clinical medicine. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in 1997, and he was named Interim Chairman of the Internal Medicine Department at UIC-Rockford in 2007. Dr. Netto is board certified in internal medicine. He is a member of the AMA, Illinois State Medical Society, the Winnebago County Medical Society and an Interstate Postgraduate Medical Associate Board of Trustee. He has served on the ISMS CME Accreditation Committee for 10 years and is the 2014 Illinois State Medical Society Continuing Medical Education Service Award recipient. He is clerkship director of medicine and Director of Medical Education at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Netto served as CME Chairman and Director of Medical Education at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. He has been the recipient of numerous honors at the medical school: Golden Apple for excellence in teaching x 2, Distinguished Teaching, Distinguished Service and the Leonard Tow and Gold Humanism Award for outstanding professionalism. In addition to his medical students, his hobbies include golf, reading, travel and gardening. Survivors include sisters, Alice Netto and Rosie (Chuck) Frame; nephew, Marc (Emily) Frame; niece, Kellie (Roel) Garza; great-nieces and nephews, Bella Frame, Michael, Joey, and Kolbe Garza; numerous cousins. Predeceased by parents. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the Cathedral of St. Peters, with the Rev. Pierre G. Polycarpe officiating. Burial in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of mass at the Cathedral.
