LINCOLNTON William "Bill" Clayton Avent, 88, 1015 Willow Drive, died Nov. 1, 2001, at home.

He was the son of the late Edward White and Margaret Hamlet Avent, worked as a precision machinist for Duff Norton, Air Force veteran, member of Lincolnton Lions Club, Boger City Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Becky F. Avent; son, Randy Avent, Atlanta; daughter, Debbie Starnes, Lincolnton; son-in-law, Dale Starnes; daughter-in-law, Robin Avent; brother, Douglas Avent, Burlington; granddaughter, Melissa Starnes, Charlotte; grandson, Clay Starnes, Charleston, S.C.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Saturday, Boger City Baptist Church, Rev. David Carter; body will be placed in church 30 minutes before the service

BURIAL: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Charlotte

VISITATION: 7-8:30 tonight, Warlick Funeral Home
