Originally born in Mississippi, Hattie married J. M. Calvert (also found as James M. and Jim N. Calvert) on May 17, 1899 in Lonoke County, Arkansas. Both were noted as residents of the Hamilton township in Lonoke County at the time of their marriage. It appears that this is at least the third marriage for J. M., recorded in marriage and census records as a native of Alabama.

In the 1900 U.S. census, Hattie is recorded as wife of J. M. (listed as Jim N.), and they are living in the Hamilton township, Lonoke County, with Rufus Calvert (his son, age 12), Archie Alison (stepson, age 16), Maggie Alison (stepdaughter, age 15), and Kisia Alison (stepson, age 11). Because there is a marriage recorded in Lonoke County on August 14, 1892 for J. M. Calvert and Mrs. Elizabeth Allison, it is believed that the "Alison" stepchildren are Elizabeth's orphaned children in the care of J. M. and Hattie. (However, a death or grave record for Elizabeth has not been found.)

In the 1910 U.S. census, Hattie and J. M. (listed as James M.) are again recorded in the Hamilton township, Lonoke County, with five children: Willie (son, age 9), Dave (son, age 8), Darby (son, age 6), Ruby (daughter, age 4), and Maude (daughter, age 1).

No census records for either Hattie or J. M. can be found after 1910. According to his headstone at Hamilton Cemetery, J. M. passed away in 1916, and Hattie, who is interred next to him, followed shortly after on March 12, 1920.

It should be noted that the 1900 U.S. census lists Hattie's date of birth as September 1880, not 1882 as is engraved on her headstone. However, not enough specific information is known about Hattie to consider the headstone to be incorrect, so the year of birth on this memorial has been left as 1882 to match her headstone.
**Update : Hattie married James Andrews after James M. Calvert died.
