Loretta N. Dunlavy, age 87, Conde, SD, widow of Wilbur A. Dunlavy, died in the Golden Living Center at Clark on Thursday evening, May 21, 2009.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Crocker Lutheran Church in Crocker, SD. Minister Marion Grimes will officiate and burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Furness Funeral Home in Clark and prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
Music will be provided by Marvine Obermeier as organist. Singing will be a duet of Marvine Obermeier and Fred Obermeier. They will sing "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". David and Carol Finstad will sing "The Wind Beneath My Wings". The congregation will sing "Borning Cry" as a processional song.
Honorary casketbearers will be her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. The active casketbearers will be Shawn Witt, John Maas, Kipp Obermeier, James Loterbauer, Jr., Loren Olson and Ted Obermeier.
Loreta was born on June 15, 1921 on the family homestead in Ziebach County, South Dakota near Isabel, the daughter of Leonard and Mary Ann (Thomas) Abelt. She attended country school in rural Ziebach County through the eighth grade. The family moved to Clark County, South Dakota in 1936, settling in Woodland Township.
She was united in marriage to Wilbur A. Dunlavy on October 17, 1937 at Clark. Following their marriage, they began their farming operation in Woodland Township. In December of 1943, they moved to their present farm in Warren Township west of Crocker. Following her husband's death in July of 1972, she continued to make her home on the farm until February of this year when she entered the Golden Living Center at Clark.
She enjoyed cooking for the Saddle Club Trail Ride for many years. She was a farm wife and homemaker and raised a large family. Among her hobbies were milking the cows and helping with the chores on the farm, gardening, canning, baking, making afghans, and doing embroidery, cross-stitch and needlework.
Among survivors grateful for having shared in her life are three sons, three daughters, 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
