Alfred R. Hardesty, 89, former instructor at Valparaiso university, died at 4 p.m. Thursday in his Chicago home at 6528 Ellis avenue after a lingering illness.
The decedent was born Jan. 17, 1860, in Medaryville, the son of Isaac and Cynthia Hardesty. He moved to Chicago 23 years ago. He taught in public schools in Chesterton and Hobart before joining the Valparaiso university faculty.
He was active in the Christian church and Masonic and Eastern Star lodges in Valparaiso.
Surviving are his widow, Bertha, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Richardson of Hebron and Mrs. Jennie Limber of Paragould, Ark.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the LePell funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, where Masonic rites will be conducted. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:30 p.m. Saturday until time of services.
