He was born on June 18, 1922, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, the son of the late Clarence H. and Josephine (Ferris) Barrett Sr.
Bill served his country during World War II in the European theatre as a tank operator.
When he returned from duty he worked on Forrest Grapes Dairy Farm in St. Johnsbury, Vermont for several years.
He married Alberta Lowrey on June 28, 1947. Together they had three children; one daughter and two sons. She predeceased him on on June 26, 1999.
He then worked for Caledonia Construction in Waterford, Vt. for 24 years as a heavy equipment operator, building and improving many roads and highways, including Interstate 91. He had also worked on the building of Moore Dam.
He then worked for the Town of Lyndon, Vermont in the highway department for eight years, and later spent three years working for Durwood Leach Construction Co. Bill also repaired lawn mowers from his Lyndon home for many years.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 1343 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one son in-law; Raymond "Butch" Locke, one brother; Clarence Barrett, and seven sisters; Audrey (Barrett) Blain, Margaret (Barrett) Smith, Louise (Barrett) Lundstrom, Marion (Barrett) Stone, Ruth (Barrett)Friend, Bertha Barrett, and Patricia Barrett.
Survivors include one daughter, two sons, one daughter-in-law, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three sisters, three brothers, two brothers-in-law, two sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
