Loretta E. Blessant
1919 – 2014

Loretta E. Blessant, 85, of Girard, died at 3:15pm Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Arma Care Center at Arma. She was admitted to the care center on March 19.

She was born Feb. 6, 1919, at Girard, to John an Bernice (Boling) Burke. She grew up and attended schools in Girard. She married Lewis Blessant. He preceded her in death during World War II in January of 1945 in France. Mrs. Blessant worked at Kansas Army Ammunition Plant at Parsons for two years. She operated the snack bar at Lucky Lanes Bowling for 26 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church at Girard and a lifetime member of the Electa Order of the Eastern Star No.23.

Survivors include one son, Gary Blessant of Girard; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Larry Blessant; two brothers, John Burke and Jim Burke; and three sisters, Oriana Porter, Martha Hill, and Florence O'Donin. Blessant Services will be 2pm Thursday at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Girard with the Rev. Darrell Biggs officiating. Burial will be in Mr. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home, where friends also may call after 1pm Wednesday. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Girard.
