Mary "Polly" Purdy married first, Waller Bailey, on 20 Dec 1825 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He died prior to 1842. She married second, widower Paul Pendleton Chamberlain on 26 May, 1842 at Hardin County (Hardin County marriage record). According to her second husband Paul, he married her in May 27, 1842, writing: "Mrs. Mary S. Baley" [sic Polly Purdy Bailey] a member of the Baptist Church called Union, in Hardin Co. Ky." They later moved to Andrew County, Missouri where they joined Nodaway Church of Regular Predestinarian Baptists, of which her husband was ordained in September,1848.
In 1864 the family went to Nebraska City, Nebraska "to escape the troubles of the war." Her husband wrote: "My second wife and I had five children, of whom three are dead. My wife was taken sick with the dropsy in March, 1870 and died Jan. 11, 1871, leaving me lonely, to mourn my loss, in my declining years."
