ABEITA, DIEGO, a lifelong resident and member of Isleta Pueblo passed away Saturday. He is survived by his wife, Lottie G. Abeita; a daughter, Louise A. Chewiwi; a son, Richard W. Abeita; four grandchildren, Linda and Beattle Chewiwi; and Jessica and Becky Abeita; a brother, Lallo Abeita and a sister, Rufina Craven. During his life, he was active in community affairs, working extensively for Indian land and water rights. He was a chairman of the Irrigation Committee of the Six Middle Rio Grande Pueblos for many years. He was also a trustee of the Bernalillo County Indian Hospital and served as Lieutenant Governor of the Pueblo of Isleta. He served on the Isleta Pueblo Tribal Council for 30 years. He was self-employed as a rancher, and raised Hereford cattle. He was a member of St. Augustine Church. Rosary was recited in the family home on Sunday. Mass will be on Monday in St. Augustine Church. Pallbearers will be Gene Abeita, Hubert Abeita, Willie Abeita, Ernest Jajola, Marcelino Lucero and Nicky Lucero. Strong-Thorne in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Isleta Pueblo Cemetery.
