Charles M. Byron, a resident of Reading for 44 years, died at his home in Reading on August 29, 2012. He was 77 years of age. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on March 24, 1935, he was the son of George and Cora (Maxwell) Byron. Charles graduated from Northeastern University in 1958 and received a BA degree. A banker his entire career, he began with Boston Five Cents Saving and retired from Citizens Bank in 2001. Charles was an avid golfer and was a member of the Hillview Golf Association in North Reading. He enjoyed playing Bridge and working in his yard. He was an avid Red Sox fan and sports enthusiast. Charles was also in the US Army during the Vietnam Era and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Charles was the beloved husband of the late Leontine "Lee" (Mazman) Byron. Devoted father of Richard C. Byron and his wife Laurie of Andover; Carolyn B. Lowe and her husband Edward of Austin, TX; Melanie A. Ata and her husband Sana of Carlisle and the late Charles J. Byron. Loving grandfather of Maxwell, Nicholas, Allison, Anika, Kaden, Alex, and Fiona. Cherished brother of the late Alice Boyd, George Byron and Grace Atherton. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday September 1, 2012 at 11 am at the First Congregational Church 25 Woburn St. in Reading. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday 2-4 & 7-9 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading.
