Joan was tried for the 1941 shooting and killing her father and little brother in Boone County Ky. Her attorney successfully used the sleep walking defense for the first time and got her acquitted. She moved to Louisville Ky. after the trial and taught high school there unit her death. Numerous books and articles have been written about the Kiger murders and a play about the Rosegate Muders has been performed over the past decade.
