Private David F. Card was a University City firefighter from 1959 to 1994 and served with distinction. Dave Card was also an engineer on Hook & Ladder Truck 269, which was a 110-foot aerial ladder with that agency.

Dave Card was the best friend of former University City Fire Fighter Thomas M. Tumbrink, my twin brother, who died in 1982 from injuries sustained from a house fire. These 2 fire fighters were under the command of Captain Larry Williams. All three were the best of friends and worked on the same crew and fire house.

David Frank Card, 88, of rural Carlinville, IL, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his residence with Captain Larry Williams, University City Fire Department, retired, by his side.

He was born on March 3, 1932 in St. Louis, MO to Robert E. and Edith M. (Frank) Card. Dave married Miriam Larson in August of 1958 in East St. Louis, MO.

Dave graduated from Carlinville High School in 1950. He then served in the US Navy during the Korean War as an Aviation Machinist Mate, 3rd Class Petty Officer, from 1951-1955.

Dave then served as a University City firefighter in St. Louis County, Missouri from 1959-1994.

Dave was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the International Association of Firefighters, and the President of Carlinville High School's first booster club, "The Wrestling Rippers." Dave was also a blackbelt in the martial arts. He greatly enjoyed following the pursuits of his grandchildren and working on his timber.
